_Interesting science and technology

Between 11 and 23 August the summit for technological discoveries, hands-on science and self-discovery will take place at Messe Essen exhibition centre and in the Gruga Park. After previous venues in Gelsenkirchen, Hanover and Stuttgart, the fourth IdeenPark will this time take place in the Ruhr Valley. You should put this midsummer date in your diary already...

...Some 400,000 visitors are expected to attend this 60,000-square metre technical wonder—there'll be something for the whole family and free entry on all days.

This technological and educational summit is being organised by the ThyssenKrupp Group, which started the IdeenPark with the support of the state of North-Rhine Westfalia and more than 120 partners from research, science and industry. The goal is to inspire people to innovate, to encourage technical creativity and allow people to experience the significance of technical novelties for the future. This is against a background of a fast-growing global population, an ever-changing climate, dwindling resources and a rapidly-rising demand for raw materials. Only responsible and educated people will be able to rise to the great future challenges of population growth, urbanisation, mobility and globalisation, and to combine efficient use of resources, environmental protection and key green technologies. Many universities, polytechnics, associations, initiatives and educational institutions, but also research institutes such as the Fraunhofer and Max-Planck Institutes and the Leibniz Association will take part in IdeenPark 2012. In addition, there will be numerous corporations, including Daimler, Microsoft, Siemens, Deutsche Telekom, Trumpf, Ford, 3M Deutschland and Zeiss. Several hundred scientists, researchers, engineers and educators will look after IdeenPark visitors and present experiments and explain projects. IdeenPark is ground-breaking—a total break from traditional exhibition and conference structures. Open to everybody and fully-interactive. Mark it in your diary now!
